Phantom packhorse

Inspired by a haunting piece of Lake District folklore, this collection draws on the legend of a lost packhorse said to have vanished into the fells, never to return. Yet locals still speak of ghostly sightings and the distant echo of hooves crossing old packhorse bridges beneath the mist.

Translating this atmospheric tale into design, the collection combines hand-drawn coloured pencil illustrations with digital manipulation to create richly layered patterns for wallcoverings and soft furnishings. Evoking the mystery, movement and rugged beauty of the landscape, this design captures a sense of folklore of the fells.
